On The Table!

March 19th, 2009

On the evening of March 19th The First Annual Feast of Saint Joseph was held at the Saint Peter Church & School in Point Pleasant, New Jersey.

The event drew in over 260 attendees, with all of the proceeds going to benefit the Saint Peter Church & School. Joseph Leone Introna, owner of Joe Leone’s, organized the event to bring the community together, honor his patron saint, and fulfill a lifelong dream of his grandmother, who passed away in 2005.

Joe Leone’s donated the food and materials for the evening, and Mr. Introna, along with countless members of his staff, donated their time and energy to organize & work the event. The beautiful evening began with a mass at Saint Peter Church, where the sisters of St. Joseph renewed their vows, and ended with a hearty feast in the school’s cafeteria. The feast menu featured traditional St. Joseph’s Day dishes, which Joseph Introna used to prepare and enjoy with his grandmother. The menu featured a four-course meal with rice balls, eggplant polpette and frittatas as antipasti; insalata di arrancia – arugula greens with sliced blood oranges, fresh black pepper and olive oil for the second course; a selection of pasta, including pasta sabbia – pasta with fresh bread crumbs, roasted peppers in garlic and oil – or pasta con sarde – pasta with sardines, fennel and raisin in a tomato sauce with garlic and onion; and dessert, which featured the traditional Saint Joseph zeppole.

The event went very well and was a wonderful experience for those in attendance, meanwhile raising funds for both the church and school. “It feels good to give back to my saint,” Mr. Introna said. I’m glad I can show my children the tradition that we’ve had [in my family] and share it with so many people.”
