The 17th Annual Culinary Classic

The Culinary Classic has been presented each year in May at the Mill at Spring Lake Heights. Introduced in 1992 to help sustain the Foodbank’s mission, 17 years later it is still considered the original, largest and most widely known tasting event at the Jersey Shore.

Over 40 of the area’s finest restaurants, caterers, wineries and breweries donate signature dishes and product for over 800 guests."

As usual, Joe Leone's was excited to participate in the event, and proud to say that this year's Culinary Classic was a hit.

We chose a theme to honor the beautiful Italian city of Venice in true fashion. Our newly designed Venetian presentation, complete with a 20 foot gondola & live gondolier was the rage of the show. Being that the tasting is a showcase event, Joe Leone’s presentations are designed to accentuate a particular theme, and are live examples of signature display concepts readily available to catering customers. The Venetian presentation is our newest creation, and the Culinary Classic provided the perfect opportunity to showcase it.

Retail manager Ricky Fuentes did a masterful job of being the Gondolier and Christopher Dello Russo preformed a great representation of a bartender from the famous Harry's Bar in Venice. To make the Venetian presentation complete, the culinary minds at Joe Leone's prepared and served red snapper il Cartoccio. This delicious creation incorporated an old world recipe with some modern twists, a signature style of Joe Leone's. The ingredients included fresh red snapper fillets, carrots, celery, onions, kalamata olives, potatoes and capers. Served on individual parchment paper pouches, the dish is finished in a tomato infused clam broth and garnished with a baby clam.

If you have not had the opportunity to attend the Culinary Classic in previous years, keep it in mind for next year. The signature dishes & inviting atmosphere are not to be missed by any food enthusiast, all under the backdrop of aiding a worthy cause. Joe would like to thank all those in attendance, his fellow presenters, and the Foodbank of Ocean & Monmouth Counties for hosting this wonderful event, and assisting the lives of those in need.
